My Walk Through the Book of Mark by Annette Godtland

The Parable of the Mustard Seed (Mark 4:30-32)

30Then He said, "To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade."

This little parable really says a lot about God's Kingdom. It takes such a tiny seed to bring in God's Kingdom. A seemingly insignificant seed, especially compared to other seeds in the world. Sometimes even the seemingly insignificant things we do can help spread God's Kingdom. God will nurture it and grow it into something grand!

I love how this parable indicates that God's Kingdom is strong, even greater than other things that tend to grow in our lives. God's Kingdom brings shelter and protection. Those who get weary of the world should build their home under the protection of God's Kingdom. It sounds like a very welcoming place, a place for rest. It is there for us!
